A natural wine guide to Batumi
How natural wine differs from conventional, where to try it in Batumi and what to order first.
What is natural wine
Natural wine means minimal intervention: wild yeasts, hand-harvested grapes, unfiltered, and with almost no added sulfites. In the glass, it is more alive and unpredictable than conventional wine, with flavors evolving from sip to sip. Learn more about styles and regions in our guide on which Georgian wine to try.
How it differs from conventional wine
Conventional wine is made using cultured yeasts following a stable recipe, then filtered and stabilized. Natural wine reflects the vintage, the terroir, and the winemaker's personality. With its 8,000-year qvevri tradition, Georgia is one of the world's capitals of natural winemaking. The best way to dive into this philosophy is through a wine tasting in Batumi.
Where to start
If you're a beginner: start with a refreshing Tsolikouri, a vibrant Tsitska pét-nat, or a deep amber wine (our list features exceptional Krakhuna amber and Kisi amber). Saperavi and Khvanchkara represent the classics. Check out our full wine list in the /wine section.
