Pét-nat is a sparkling wine that finishes fermenting right in the bottle. How it differs from prosecco and champagne — and where to start.
The ancestral method
Pétillant naturel — naturally sparkling. The wine is bottled before fermentation ends, so the CO₂ stays in the bottle. No dosage, no added sugar — just grapes and wild yeast.
Pét-nat vs prosecco
Prosecco is made in big tanks (Charmat method), champagne via secondary fermentation with added liqueur. Pét-nat is one single fermentation — livelier, cloudier, less predictable. The punk rock of sparkling wine.
